Developing explores the relationship between science and art through handmade porcelain. My porcelain-making process involves firing and mixing ceramic colour stains, echoing the precision and transformation found in both ceramics and glassmaking. Although the process appears delicate and romantic, it relies on careful calculation, technical knowledge, and continual experimentation.
Each porcelain fragment is shaped using my own fingerprints. Fingerprints begin to form during early development in the womb and become a unique, lifelong record of each individual. For me, they also embody the earliest physical connection between mother and child, symbolising blood ties, memory, and the beginning of identity. By embedding my fingerprints into the porcelain, I preserve both a personal trace and a universal human experience.
The porcelain petals are placed inside laboratory glass vessels, presenting the work as an ongoing experiment rather than a finished object. The scientific containers represent observation, research, and continual development, inviting viewers to reflect on how identity, memory, and material evolve over time.
