第五屆德國錫德堡陶瓷獎 5th Siegburg ceramics award.
Thank you for selecting my work 'Smile @fingerprint' for the 5th Siegburg Ceramics Award. I really appreciate it.
The intention behind the work is to create a series of the sculptural forms that embodies the concept of ‘in-betweenness’. I use my fingerprint as a step-by-step method to create a series of work, employing Royale porcelain and color stains as the chosen materials. The central symbol in the work is the ‘@’ sign and a smiley face, which serves as reminder to maintain a positive and joyful outlook regardless of the circumstances. I believe that a smile is a universal language that transcends borders and cultural difference.Furthermore, the use of my fingerprint signifies a personal exploration of my identity and the duality of living in both Taiwan (my homeland) and Britain (my second-home). My work appears to be an embodiment of my personal journey and the ability to find happiness and identity amidst the challenges of living in two different places. ‘Smile @Fingerprint’ is a personal message of resilience and cross-cultural identity.
